Coaching vs. Therapy: What’s the Difference — and Which One Do I Need?

You’ve done the inner work. You’ve journaled, meditated, maybe even sat across from a therapist and said,“I know where this comes from… but now what?”

If that’s you — you’re not alone.

One of the most common things I hear from new clients is:“I’ve done the self work and gained so much insight through therapy, journaling but I still feel stuck when it comes to actually changing my life.”

So let’s talk about it — the difference between coaching and therapy, and how to know which one might be right for where you are now.

Therapy Helps You Understand Where You’ve Been

Therapy is a powerful tool for healing. It often focuses on unpacking the past — old wounds, patterns, beliefs, and traumas that shaped who you are. It’s about creating awareness, understanding, and emotional safety.

For many of us, it’s the first time we feel heard and held in the truth of our experience. Therapy can help regulate your nervous system, process unresolved emotions, and name things that once felt too big or too blurry to face. But insight alone doesn’t always create movement.

Coaching Helps You Move Forward

Coaching picks up where therapy sometimes leaves off.

Coaching is present and future focused. It’s about clarity, structure, and momentum. You might already know why you’re burnt out, people-pleasing, stuck in unhelpful perfectionism, and some old habits that just do not serve you anymore.

Coaching helps you tune out the outside noise and ask:

What do I want now?

What’s getting in the way?

How do I build a life that feels aligned — practically, emotionally, and energetically?

So, What’s My Role as a Coach?

Think of me as your guide. Not someone to “fix” you (as you are already whole, just as you are today) — but someone who walks beside you while you come home to yourself.

In our sessions, we get clear on what matters to you. We create structure, rituals, habits and support systems that hold you accountable as you move towards your ultimate goals. We work with tools from coaching, psychology, and integrative nutrition to support your nervous system, your mindset, and your day-to-day life — so change doesn’t just stay in your head, but shows up in your body, habits, and relationships.

If Therapy is About Healing, Coaching is About Rebuilding

You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit from coaching. You just need to be ready to do things differently — and open to support as you make that shift.

So if you’re in a season where you’re saying:“I know what’s not working. I just don’t know how to move forward.”— coaching might be exactly what you need.

If this resonates and feels like what you’re looking for, I’d love to walk with you. Remember — you don’t have to figure it out alone.

Thank you for the clarification! I was wondering what the difference is and this article made is so much more clear for me.
